Future Archeological Digs

Posted in Podcasts on July 18th, 2006

What will happen when future archeologists come across the remains of the homes of Susie and Barb? They have their theories, but there will certainly be some head scratching involved. And what does this say about how we view Cro-Magnon man and what he left behind? Perhaps we assign too much meaning to relics of the past. What puzzles will you leave behind?

I haven’t even finished listening but I had to point out that pompei was preserved within ash, not lava. The top of the volcano exploded, the folks of Pompei began to panic and they were immediately buried within a deluge of muddy ash and super-heated gas. The lava came later. This is the reason we can excavate the town with relative ease. If it had been just lava, there wouldn’t be anyone left in town as lava is generally much slower moving.

And, that should be “Pompeii”. Sorry - I know how spelling errors are such a sore point with Susie! *wink*

Oh Mamaloo - I am so embarrassed not to know about the ash/lava thing, but I have to admit, I never understood why anyone would stand still while being covered with lava. Thanks for solving one of life’s mysteries for me. I wouldn’t want to go either way. And thanks for indulging me on the spelling thing.
