Susie Goes Cruising
Posted in Podcasts on June 13th, 2006
Like a Martian visiting earth for the first time, Susie enters the world of the luxury cruise and, as always, has something to say about it. She and Barb talk about her Princess Cruise to Alaska, where she saw great scenery, experienced great service, great food, and yet some things shock and surprise her. As a result she develops the perfect Princess marketing profile from the clues she is given on the cruise. Listen and see if you fit the target market of the cruise corporations!

I did a 7-day cruise in the Western Caribbean (Jamaica, Grand Caymen
Island, Cozumel in Mexico) a couple of years ago and it sounds very
similar. I was amazed at how many different ways they had to attempt
to get me to buy stuff. I swear a couple of places we stopped at
while in port existed solely to service the cruises. And even though
it was a different company (mine was Carnival) they too had a library
with locked cases keeping the Harold Robbins books safely away from
prying hands. They had a dodgy art auction too. But I did go to a
fascinating jewellery class…learned to see flaws in gems etc. I
think I was supposed to use this information in the many jewellery
shops on board or in Jamaica or Grand Caymen but I didn’t buy a
single jewel…was simply curious to learn what to look for when I
inherit
I would do another cruise some time because I figure all the shopping
subsides the cheap travel. I was never tempted by the shopping so I
figured I was winning out on the deal. However, 6 or 7 days would be
about as long as I could stand without going mad.

Good point, Bernadette, I guess by not buying we do beat the system.
And I brought my own books, anyway. Our cruise was 7 days, and you’re
right, it was a perfect length. Diamonds were the big thing being
pushed by the shopping chick in Alaska, too, but she offered nothing
so educational as gemology. They must get a cut from every retailer.
Thanks for sharing!
