TV - Suspend Belief

Posted in Podcasts on January 16th, 2007

We love to talk about TV and all the goofy storylines and details. Unending sex between everyone, beautiful forensics experts and FBI agents, amiable liberal juries, doctors and lawyers who never fail/lose, female and ethnic presidents are just a few of the topics Barb and Susie cover this time. Is TV unbelievable? Absolutely. Boring? Sometimes. Comments? We hope so.

    Great show ladies.

I always get a chuckle out of West Wing. I’ve worked for A LOT of politicians and not one of them has been as intelligent, reasonable, lacking in ego and interested in the good of mankind as Jed Bartlett or Matt Santos.

The funny thing is that the politicians all watch it and they think it’s virtually a documentary about people like them. The staffers all watch it too but we think it’s a fantasy. It’s the place we all wish we worked instead of the sound-bite driven, game-playing, petty, ego-driven circus we actually work in. It’s all about perception I guess. I think West Wing is as divorced from real politics as CSI is from real forensics.

It is so interesting how management (in all walks of life) thinks they are one thing and staffers see them completely differently. Perception/reality.
