Power to the People

While Susie is away, Barb and Gregg take on the topic of two growing online concerns, UrbanDictionary.com and Wikipedia.org. Both are examples of how the Internet fosters the growth of people-powered communities. Like blogging, podcasting and Craigslist, the popularity of these communities seems to have as much to do with rejecting the corporate media machine as it does with the sheer fun and usefulness of the end product.

Board Games

No, not the games played in corporate America, but the fun kind. The ones you play with friends and family around a table. Trends come and go, but the board game never goes away. Susie and Barb have their own favorites, but also talk history, from Monopoly and Scrabble, to 3M’s bookshelf games in the 60’s and 70’s. And don’t forget the TV games, if the show was popular, there was a board game to commemorate it. So pull up a chair and let’s play!

Unplugged

Going without electricity for even a few days convinces Barb and Susie that pop culture simply wouldn’t exist without it. Cut off from communications and media, the connections that tie us together, there simply wouldn’t be any trends, since we wouldn’t know what anyone else was doing in a timely manner. Candlelight, anagrams, reading, and going to bed early were the order of the day. Romantic? Not so much.
