Funko Friday: Treat Yo Self With ‘Parks and Recreation Party Game’

This week, we’re taking a look at the Parks and Recreation Party Game from Funko Games. Regardless of whether you can quote the entire series from start to finish or if you’ve never seen a single episode, this quasi-cooperative/totally competitive party game is a blast for 3 to 6 players ages 14+.

Players work together to complete projects for the town of Pawnee, earning participating players waffles. How many waffles a player earns per project is where the competition comes in, with the player earning the most points (waffles, worth different point values) at the end of the game winning. Meanwhile Li’l Sebastian is eating waffles as well, moving the players closer to the end of the game with every waffle eaten. Visitors to the office can make rounds easier or harder for the players to complete the projects in front of them.

Included in the game box are the Li’l Sebastian figure, 18 project cards, 7 Character cards, 48 To Do cards, 11 Visitor cards, 24 Character tokens, 50 Waffle tokens, 4 Pawnee tokens, and the instructions. Average gameplay take around 30 minutes per session.

On first read through, the instructions appeared to be long and a little convoluted. However, once play began, the gameplay became strategic yet simple. Our testers really enjoyed the split between co-operative and competitive gameplay. Everyone is working to complete the overall objective of finishing projects before Li’l Sebastian has eaten his fill, while subtly and strategically working to take the most points for each project. Our testers hope that the game is successful to launch an expansion pack with even more characters and projects to add to the base game down the road.
