‘Man with a Plan’: The Next Sitcom You Didn’t Know You Needed

Man With A Plan

Man With A Plan

Man with a Plan is a ray of sunshine that will help you out in these uncertain times. The show, starring Matt Leblanc (Friends, Joey, Episodes), brings out the best of a modern middle-class family experience. The sitcom follows a man (LeBlanc) who discovers the hardships of raising his kids once his wife (Snyder) returns to the workplace. While the show did not do too hot with season one critics, it built an excellent fan-base who eventually adored the series. With its light-hearted jokes, setting, and conflict, there is something for every viewer.

This is where a sitcom like Man with a Plan shines. It teases out heavy topics in a relatable and fresh way; something TV shows have struggled with achieving in 2020. Succeeding where others shows fell flat, Man with a Plan showcases raising kids, social interaction, and family in a tactful yet hilarious way. Going into the show blind, something this author struggles with, proved to be a pleasant experience in just the first few episodes. An array of snorting and belly laughter abounds in tight 25 minute episodes that open and close concise plots in relatable ways.

Originally airing on CBS, Netflix has the entire catalog of 4 seasons of the show before it was canceled earlier this year. Surrounding buzz on social media, fans launched campaigns for Netflix to pick up and renew the show. However, in recent years, CBS has not licensed out much content. In lieu of the pandemic, Netflix has picked up several CBS licenses to fill its lineup in the era of COVID. As of right now, it looks like Man with a Plan has no plans for a reboot. However, do not let this deter your viewing, as the four seasons on Netflix wrap up nicely.

Clearly, there is still a place for sitcoms on TV. With all that 2020 has brought us, Man with a Plan deserves a spot in your Netflix queue for viewing that will not disappoint. So next time you find yourself in a show hole, give it a shot. I am sure you will be glad you did.
