Pop Culture Kitchen: Pepperoni Fried Rice Pizza

Listening to the podcast this week sparked some inspiration for me! Episode 363 on September 19th joked about the idea of a pepperoni fried rice pizza. I decided to take it seriously and I’m so glad I did! Make your own with our recipe!

You will need:

  • flour
  • sugar
  • salt
  • water
  • active dry yeast
  • oil
  • imitation crab
  • cream cheese
  • green onions
  • crushed red peppers
  • salt and pepper
  • rice
  • frozen mixed veggies
  • 1/4 onion
  • mini pepperonis
  • 10 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • wonton wraps

for the crust:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and grease your pizza pan.
  2. Put warm water into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add sugar and yeast and stir to combine.
  4. Let mixture sit for 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy and bubbles form.
  5. Add oil and stir to combine.
  6. Add 2 cups of flour and salt and mix with a spatula until a ball begins to form (dough will still be slightly sticky). Add more flour as needed to form a dough ball.
  7. Transfer to a floured surface and knead into a smooth dough, adding up to ½ cup extra flour if needed.
  8. Roll out your dough onto your pizza pan.
  9. Bake on the lower rack of your preheated oven for 5 minutes and remove from your oven.

For the “sauce”

… which is actually crab Rangoon filling.

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 chopped green onions
  • 8 oz chopped imitation crab
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

mix it all together.

For the fried rice

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 chopped onion
  • frozen mixed veggies
  • soy sauce
  • mini pepperonis

Instructions:

  1. rinse rice then cook in a small pot with water at a simmer until water is fully absorbed. About 10 minutes.
  2. in a separate skillet warm oil and sauté onions and veggies.
  3. Add rice and continue to cook on medium for 3 minutes. Add as much soy sauce as you’d like.
  4. Finally, add pepperoni.

For the pizza:

  • Finally, assemble your pizza by putting crab Rangoon filling on the crust, topping with fried rice, then shredded mozzarella cheese and crushed red peppers.
  • Bake your pizza at 400 for 10 minutes.
  • while your pizza is baking, cut your wonton wraps into strips and fry them in oil in a medium sauce pan until golden brown.
  • when pizza is done, top with chopped green onions and won ton strips. Enjoy!
