Pop Goes the Culture Newsletter for June 2022

Before we jump into what’s coming up in the month of June, we want to take a quick look back at the month of May. We started the month wrapping up our appearance at VisionCon. In the middle of the month we participated in programming at Fan Expo St. Louis. As always, we want to thank both conventions for having us out and letting us be a part of your programming for your fans and attendees. We also resurrected The Backlot by Alamo Drafthouse podcast, focusing on movie news and discussions. We just kicked off our summer long discussion and poll series on our Favorite 90s Movies. You can subscribe to The Backlot in your favorite podcast player or find new episodes right here at PopGoesTheCulture.com.

June is summer road trip month at Pop Goes the Culture. All this month we’ll be talking about our favorite entertainment and pop culture road trip destinations, who you’d take along with you, the music to listen to on your trip, and our favorite gas station foods to fuel us along the way. Not sure what to wear on your summer road trip? Pick up your summer themed Pop Goes the Culture shirts, totes, beach towels and more in our online store before they go away at the end of the summer.

Also this month we’re kicking off a brand new Patreon campaign. For less than $1 a week, patrons will have exclusive access to video recordings of our weekly podcast recording sessions, new interactive posts and polls, and more. Check it out at Patreon.com/pgtc.

Be sure to join us online and in-person throughout the month of June:

  • Sunday, June 12th, 2pm Central Time: We’ll be hosting our Mad Libs Drink & Draw. If you’ve been to one of these in-person at a comic con, you know how much fun they are and that no two are ever the same. If you’ve never been to one, here’s the deal… you grab something to draw with and something to draw on — pencil and paper are fine, but you get whatever you want. We’ll create an art prompt, Mad Libs style, then everyone gets to draw their own picture using that prompt. Be sure to take photos and post your drawings on social media and tag us so we can share them! The event takes place on our Fan Meetup Discord server in the “Art Hub” Voice Channel.
  • Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th: Joey will be the Master of Ceremonies at Tremendicon in Springfield, Missouri. This is not your typical comic con. Tremendicon features 8 interactive tracks of programming to introduce attendees to people and concepts to help you break into the arts and entertainment business, from writing to art to game design to music to digital media and more. Highlights include a pinball tournament and the TremendiConcert Saturday night at 8pm featuring Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys. If you’re in the area, come out and join us!
  • Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th: Joey and Kenny are hitting the road on our own road trip down to Jackson, Mississippi for Mississippi Comic Con. Joey will be the Master of Ceremonies and Kenny will be hosting programming all weekend long. If you’re in the area, get your tickets and come out and see us!
