‘Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge’: The Force is Strong With This Game Show

I’ve been a big fan of game shows for as long as I can remember, but I only first saw Star Wars in high school but I quickly became a fan. So back at the end of 2019 when Disney announced a new game show for kids set in the Star Wars universe, I was all in.

Originally planned for Disney+, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge is hosted by Ahmed Best, the actor behind Jar Jar Binks, as a brand new Jedi Master named Kelleran Beq along with his two droids, AD-3, voiced by actress Mary Holland, and LX-R5. Across its first season of ten episodes, Master Beq puts three teams of two padawans through three rounds of challenges designed to test their strength, knowledge, and bravery until one team earns the right to enter the Jedi Temple and become Jedi Knights.

The first round is a four-part obstacle course set on a distant world that the teams must complete, in any order they choose, to unlock the four pieces that make up their lightsabers. The first two teams to build their lightsabers move onto the next round.

Played on a Jedi Starcruiser, the two teams are told a story then must answer questions based on that story. One player is the engineer who finds their answers hidden on the ship and the other is the pilot who finds their answers on their control panels. The first team to get five answers correct moves onto the final round, the Jedi Temple.

In the Jedi Temple, the remaining team must navigate through five challenges all while trying not to be seduced by the Dark Side, which makes one challenge easier, but the next harder. The goal, to retrieve the Kyber crystal that powers their lightsabers and make it out of the temple before time runs out. If they are successful, they win and become Jedi Knights.

The show owes a lot to Nickelodeon’s 90’s game show favorite Legends of the Hidden Temple for its format for sure. The first round is basically the Moat and Temple Games combined and the second is their answer to the Steps of Knowledge and then the Temple obviously, but to me, none of that really matters because it’s a really fun show that is still uniquely Star Wars. Some would dismiss it and say it’s a rip-off, but I say… who cares?

To sum it up, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge is a super fun game show for kids, families, and Star Wars fans alike for everyone to enjoy.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge are available now on YouTube.com/StarWarsKids and StarWarsKids.com with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.
