Trailer Park: ‘Fistful of Vengeance’

Super-powered assassin Kai and friends Lu Xin and Tommy track a killer from San Francisco’s Chinatown to Thailand to avenge the death of a loved one. But their hunt soon entangles them with old enemies, a mysterious billionaire and an ancient mystical force bent on taking over the world. Iko Uwais (The Raid) stars with Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat), Lawrence Kao (Max Steel) and Pearl Thusi (Queen Sono) in Netflix’s fast-and-furious martial arts action film.

The trailer homages supernatural elements from Shaw Brothers era kung fu films, mixes it with a throwback vibe of 90s “guys team up to track down a villain using kung fu” movies (seriously, the only thing missing was a Jean-Claude Van Damme cameo), while retaining modern humor and sensibilities. The cinematography is beautiful. Lewis Tan is one of the most consistent and engaging young action stars of the past half-decade or so — good on Netflix for giving us more of Tan after his too-short appearance in the streamer’s Iron Fist series. This one looks like a can’t miss when it debuts on February 17th.
