New Comic Book Day: Wednesday, January 2, 2018

What are you picking up at your local comic shop or digital service today? Here are a few of our suggestions for Wednesday, January 2, 2019:

Action Comics 1006

Action Comics #1006: The Bendis run continues! Seriously… what more needs to be said?

Black Hammer Age of Doom

Black Hammer: Age of Doom (TPB): This might be one of my favorite superhero books on the shelf right now. Age of Doom is the 3rd volume of Black Hammer trades.

Conan the Barbarian 1

Conan the Barbarian #1: Jason Aaron can write barbarian-type characters, as evidenced by his recent and current run on Thor. Mahmud A. Asrar does a good job evoking the Frank Frazetta style we all want from a Conan title. I am looking forward to this run. No better place to jump in than with issue #1!

Heroes in Crisis 4

Heroes In Crisis #4: A divisive title, to be sure. Tom King can be subversive. What does he have in store for the limited series’s second act?

Immortal Hilk 11

Immortal Hulk #11: The first of a pair of horror comics among our suggestions today. If you’ve not been following this title, it’s time to jump in.

Jughead the Hunger 11

Jughead: The Hunger #11: The second horror comic in our list for this week. The Archie horror comics have been strong since Afterlife with Archie rebooted the line back in 2013, and it’s only expanding with a couple more titles this year.

Knights of the Golden Sun #2: This is the first of two offerings this week from our friends over at Mad Cave Studios. If you’re into religious fiction with angels and demons and/or speculative historical fiction, then be sure to add Knights of the Golden Sun to your pull list.

Midnight Task Force: Hidden Voices (TPB): Speaking of Mad Cave Studios, last year’s sci-fi/dystopian/detective noir series Midnight Task Force is collected in trade paperback this week. If you’re someone who can’t keep up with single issues and waits for the trades, now is the time to grab the first volume in the series.
