New Movies At The Box Office for Friday, August 28th 2020

It’s been a red hot minute, but with movie theaters reopening across the United States, we have new movies playing in those theaters this weekend.

First up is Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third film in the franchise. Coming 31 years after the original film and 29 years after the sequel, can the Reeves revival breath life into a nearly three decade old franchise?

Then there’s The New Mutants. Filmed in 2017, The New Mutants originally had an April 2018 release date. The film was delayed for planned reshoots (which may or may not have had any real impact on the film. depending on who’s telling the story), then Disney’s acquisition of Fox, then the pandemic.

Are you headed out to watch either of these at the theater this weekend? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to check out the re-launched The Backlot by Alamo Drafthouse podcast next Thursday — and every Thursday — for the latest in what’s new and newsworthy at the box office.
