Pop Culture Kitchen: Scooby Snack Ice Cream

Our recent vacation to Universal Studios included meeting the all of the Scooby Doo character cast! (See photo below!) We had a blast with them and they all stayed in character wonderfully! This inspired our newest ice cream recipe, Scooby Snack Ice Cream. Check it out!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/2 heavy cream
  • 3/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate melted
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 10 Oreos crushed
  • Scooby snack graham crackers

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream, 1/2 cup sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warm and begins to steam, about 5 minutes. Stir in the melted chocolate.
  2. Whisk together the egg yolks and remaining 1/4 cup of sugar. Carefully whisk half of the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks until the egg mixture is warmed. Whisk the egg-milk mixture back into the saucepan. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of the spoon, about 5 to 7 minutes. Be careful not to boil the mixture.
  3. Immediately strain the mixture through a fine strainer into medium bowl. In a larger bowl create an ice bath by filling it halfway with ice and 2 cups of cold water. Place the medium bowl into the ice bath and mix until cool. Mix in graham cracker crumbs and Oreos. Cover with plastic and freeze for four hours.
  4. Once frozen, serve topped with extra graham cracker crumbs and Scooby snacks!
