Pop Goes the Culture September 2021 E-Newsletter

September’s here. With it comes shorter days, cooler temperatures, and the return of the Pop Goes the Culture podcast! Catch us this Friday in the podcast player of your choice as we kick off a brand new season with our 300th episode, where we’ll be taking a look back at what we did over the summer break, some of our favorite interview moments from the first 300 episodes, and turn our attention to what’s coming up. All that, plus all that’s new and newsworthy in entertainment & pop culture.

The Pop Goes the Culture team wrapped up our summer vacation at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, Missouri the weekend of August 20th through 22nd. We hosted panels, shopped the vendors, met some of our favorite celebrities and creators, and more. You can check out Joey’s official Planet Comicon wrap up at GeekDad for our thoughts and a huge photo gallery from the event. We’ll be back when Planet Comicon returns Friday, April 22nd through Sunday, April 24th 2022 and we hope to see as many of you there as can make it.

Coming Up This Month

In addition to kicking off the new season with our 300th episode this Labor Day weekend, we have a full slate of new shows every Friday and online activities scattered throughout the month.

  • On the Friday 9/10 episode, we’ll be drafting what we’re most looking forward to the rest of 2021 in entertainment and pop culture.
  • Tara’s back on Saturday 9/11 with monthly web articles featuring crafts, recipes, cocktails, and more. With Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’s birthdays on September 22nd, this month’s articles put the spotlight on the hobbits and how you can celebrate under the Party Tree with your friends and family.
  • From the feedback we received following our The Goonies: Never Say Die playthrough episode this summer, we’re livestreaming a tabletop game play session to the Pop Goes the Culture Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Twitch channel Saturday 9/11 at 7pm Central time. Game to be determined.
  • We’re planning another Pop Goes the Culture bonus interview episode on Monday 9/13 with LEGO Masters judges Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard.
  • From the feedback we received following the release of our Pop Goes the Culture songs of summer Spotify playlist, we’re releasing a new Spotify playlist of our favorite cover songs on Wednesday 9/15.
  • On the Friday 9/17 episode, we’re crowning the definitive winner of the fast food chicken nugget wars.
  • On the Friday 9/24 episode, the crew is breaking down what natural disasters we think we can survive, then putting those survival skills to the test.
  • Also on Friday 9/24, we’re bringing back one of our most visited website articles every year, our guide to Halloween TV programming for 2021.

Since the days and nights are getting cooler, we’ve added products to the Pop Goes the Culture online store, including long-sleeved tees (mens, womens, and unisex) and a Pop Goes the Culture fleece blanket you can rock in the stands at football games. These items are only available for a limited time, so hurry and get yours before they’re gone!
