Funko Friday: The Sanderson Sisters Return In ‘Disney Hocus Pocus Tricks & Wits’

While Halloween is behind us for another year, there’s no reason to end the spooky hijinks. On this Funko Friday, we’re taking a look at Hocus Pocus: Tricks & Wits card game from our friends at Funko Games. In this 2 to 4 player card game, players work in teams — either as the Sanderson sisters or as the kids set out to thwart them — to collect either the Sanderson sisters’s spellbook or the two Special cards that trump the spellbook for their team.

Included in the box are 59 Cards, 4 Markers, 1 Die, and the Instructions. Hocus Pocus: Tricks & Wits card game is for players ages 8 and up. Average gameplay lasts around 20 minutes.

Players begin by choosing whether to play as the witches or the kids. The black flame candle is built from 6 cards, with a card removed after each round. Once the candle burns out (after 6 rounds), the game ends and players reveal their cards. Whichever side ends with the spellbook wins UNLESS the opposing team has possession of the two Special cards, in which case that side wins.

Players each begin with one card and a 3 by 3 grid of 9 cards are placed in the center of the gameplay area. Players then select one action card from the 3 in their hand and play the cards face-down. Once each player has played their action card, then everyone flips their action card over. The player with the lowest number goes first, efforting to either collect the spellbook or Special cards or hide those same cards from the opposing team.

Gameplay is fast and combines the best elements of both cooperative and competitive gameplay. Players can communicate with their teammates, but must do so in a way that their opponents can hear them, which enhances the strategic elements of play. These aspects make Tricks & Wits a ton of fun to play and infinitely replayable.
