Saturday Craft: My Neighbor Totoro Pet Toys

Studio Ghibli films are on HBO MAX and I can’t get enough! Being the only Studio Ghibli fan in my household, I decided to force my obsession on my unsuspecting animals by making these incredibly adorable pet toys!

Soot Sprite Dangle Cat Toy

You will Need:

Instructions:

  1. Using a sharpie, draw eyes onto white felt
  2. Cut out the eyes and glue them to the fur ball.
  3. Attach one end of a string of yarn to fur ball and the other end to wooden dowel.
  4. Enjoy hours of fun with your adorable cat.

Totoro Squeak Dog Toy

You will need:

Instructions:

  1.  Cut a hole in your soft ball squeak toy and pull out the stuffing and squeaker. (You could always just separately buy stuffing and squeakers, but this was much cheaper.)
  2. Print and cut out the template at the bottom of the page. Using sharpie, trace onto grey felt two Totoro templates and one circle on white felt.
  3. Place the white circle on the tummy of one of your Tutoro cut outs and hand stitch it on with your needle and thread.
  4. Put the two Tutoro cutouts together and stitch them together leaving a small hole at the bottom.
  5. Stuff with stuffing and squeaker then finish stitching up the hole.
  6. Cut out eyes from white felt, nose from black felt, and tummy triangles with grey felt and glue them all on using a hot glue gun.
  7. Draw a little mouth on with a sharpie and you’re done!

  1. Ohhh my goodness these are so much fun to make and even more fun to watch your lil loved fur babies have a blast with something you created for them. Thank you so much for the idea!

  2. I love this idea! I actually have one of those black fur balls at home. I’m making this for my kitty tonight!
